Fly Rod Grades

The rod blank is the heart of any custom rod, and that is why I use blanks that conform to the highest performance standards, but come without over-inflated prices.  My blanks are manufactured by major tackle houses, both foreign and domestic.  These graphite and glass manufacturers put a great deal of research into their blanks, and the blanks I choose perform extremely well without the high-end price.

I offer two rod grades: on-hand, and commissioned. While both grades can be built to the customer’s wishes, commissioned is finished with higher priced components, selected by the client.  Nickel silver reel seats and exotic wood spacers, the highest grade cork grips, nickel silver winding checks and agate stripping guides are options.  Wraps with low or high-build coatings, can be nylon or silk in the angler’s choice of colors.  The price for a commissioned grade varies with the components selected.

On-hand grade are finished on the same rod blank with equally effective anodized aluminum reel seat with graphite, aluminum, cork, or wood inserts, best grade grips, and Hardloy ceramic or chromed stripping guides that will last.  Wraps are silk, or nylon rod building thread that is strong and long lasting.

Both grades feature snake guides, unless the customer specifies single foot guides in chrome or black.

All rods come with a matching bag and tube.
